Short on ideas for Christmas stocking fillers?

Christmas is fast approaching and ideas for presents for the ones we love may be getting thin.

Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week has come and gone again this year without significant coverage given by the media of the importance of this campaign. The awareness week emphasises the importance of audible alarms to detect and warn of the presence of this deadly gas yet needless injuries and deaths continue to occur. The gas is highly toxic, odourless and can arise in the home from faulty appliances Symptoms can often be mistaken for unrelated causes and can include dizziness, drowsiness, distorted vision, stomach pain and breathlessness. High levels of this poisionous gas can cause brain damage and death.

The smoke alarm message receives lots of coverage and adverts showing the importance of them hopefully means that every home has one but Carbon Monoxide detectors remain a long way down the list. The killer gas cannot be seen, smelt or tasted and when the first signs appear the poison is already taking effect. There is no doubt it is a silent killer with at least 50 recorded deaths nationally  every year as a result of Carbon monoxide poisoning. Despite this the majority of people still do not have a carbon monoxide detector in their home. As the weather gets colder we start to use our heating systems more and they should be regularly checked by a qualified Gas Safe engineer www.gassaferegister.co.uk and backed up by an audible carbon monoxide detector alarm. Landlords should ensure all gas appliances are regularly checked by a qualified engineeer.

This Christmas take responsibility for the safety of your loved ones put a Carbon monoxide alarm on the Santa list (obviously it may be very wise to hide it among the diamonds and high Tec gifts you may also wish to buy).
