The two lawyers both 26 have swapped their glad rags for overalls to help with building projects and educational schemes in a Maasai village just outside Nairobi.
Their trip is part of an ongoing effort organsied by the Maasai Community Concern and Children Programme. The Maasai have a daily struggle to keep body and soul together against constant threats of famine and disease. The project aims to help develop sustainable agriculture in the area through education and improving the infrastructure. Volunteers include teachers, medical professionals and a host of others.
Claim Today Solicitors have an active outreach programme of its own which focuses on health, safety and development for people in the West Midlands. Both Alison and Neeru have played a full part in this helping out with a Princes Trust scheme for the young unemployed sponsored by the firm and helping school children learn about road safety.
Alison and Neeru said “We have both been inspired to volunteering in Kenya by our experiences of working with the community here at home. We think as young professionals we lead a relatively privileged life and it’s important for us to give our time end effort to people who have been far less fortunate than us particularly at this time of year. We want to promote this work to other young professionals on our return, that’s our New Year’s resolution.”
